Lucky (the Monster), previously of Demonic Machines fame, has begun a new pedal building era with Audio! Audio!.

Lucky (the Monster), as they often go by, has been one of my favorite pedal builders from the last few years of reviews. Their Homunculus was an all-time great Klon clone, and I also loved the Fukt Fuzz noisemaker that we gave away back in 2022. Simply put, they made a lot of great pedals under the name Demonic Machines. So while that company has sadly come to an end, luckily for us Lucky isn’t going away forever.
Lucky has launched Audio! Audio!, a new pedal and gear brand that is now based in Minnesota. It’s still the early stages of the company, but Audio! Audio! already has their first pedal available. Dubbed the “Superdrive”, the inaugural pedal boasts quite a few features. Two toggle switches sit on the body, with the first allowing you to select either boost, overdrive, or distortion mode. The second one offers variable clipping (one of my favorite parts of the DM Homunculus), with LED, FET, and SI clipping options.
The Superdrive also sports a 3-band EQ, which is a great feature all by itself, plus level, presence, and gain controls as well. That’s a lot of tone shaping options, though they are all fit onto a pretty standard pedal enclosure size with top jacks. Lucky had a knack for gain pedals with Demonic Machines, so I assume this Audio! Audio! Superdrive won’t disappoint.
I got the chance to ask Lucky a few questions and they highlighted how part of the change from Demonic Machines to Audio! Audio! was to continue to move towards amp building, and away from pedals. In their own words:
“In relation to what I want to do with gear, I want to expand beyond just pedals and move more into amps. Eventually, I’d like to do a Dumble-type thing and build specialty amps for guitarists I admire.
I started building amps about a year ago and fell in love with them. Give me a cranked tweed over a distortion pedal any day. Right now I’m selling the Superdrive to get the money to build more amps to sell, and I won’t stop selling pedals, but I had over twenty different circuits as Demonic Machines and it was entirely too much. I’d like to keep my product selection lean; a handful of pedals and amps that are well-developed, quality circuits.”
Lucky describes their new brand and gear as being a good fit for noise rock/shoegaze, punks, blues lawyers, funk doctors, praise band guitarists, and John Mayer.
