As guitarist Josh Law alluded to in an interview with me last year, the band’s got the guitar front and center these days.

Getting to know the music of Getdown Services has been one of the more fun developments of the last year or two. As I wrote about ahead of my interview with one half of the band, Josh Law, there’s few bands who are just this much fun these days. Shortly after interviewing Josh, me and my friend got to go see them live and hang with the guys in New York City and trust me, it did not disappoint one bit.
While discussing Josh’s unique approach to gear, his guitar playing influences, and the band’s plans for the future, he mentioned that newer stuff would have the guitar a little more prominent in the mix after he had fallen back in love with the instrument. He was not lying, as their latest single “I Can’t Die Like That” showcases some of the blues-y, garage, and glam rock fueled guitar that had me falling in love with the band on “I Got Views” and “Dog Dribble”.
Everything about this song is just killer and has me pumped for their new album dropping on August 14th. Titled “Massive Champion”, I’m stoked to see what the future holds for these boys after the wrapped up their big US tour, which is heavily featured in the music video for “I Can’t Die Like That”. Full of smooth guitar lines and even some fun little counter melodies showcasing Josh’s taste for cheeky guitar leads, this feels like a good template for how guitar can fit in seamlessly alongside electronic instruments. Simply put, there are few bands that are doing things as creatively and uniquely as Getdown Services at the moment. Top lads.
