Few people give off DIY energy as much as the guy behind The Melody Maker, a guitar gear and coffee shop in Clinton, MA.

There’s few things that I love more than a really good coffee shop. Fancy coffee drinks, a breakfast sandwich, maybe even some pastries? What more could you need. Now imagine that your favorite coffee shop also was stocked with guitars, pedals, and amps. Not even that, but it was stocked with really cool gear from all sorts of local and national independent builders. If you’re into that kind of thing, then you should probably go visit The Melody Maker in Clinton, MA.
On our next punk business profile we’re focusing in on one of my all time favorite establishments in the New England area. The Melody Maker may not be as obviously “punk” as our last highlight, Rejects Beer Co, it is not lacking for DIY energy from the owner and proprietary Zach.
One of the best parts of The Melody Maker, aside from the coffee and food I’ve enjoyed there, is the curation of gear that Zach stocks. There’s a ton of used gear, so there’s really good prices to be found on more familiar brands that come in the door. But a lot of the new gear is from a great list of independent builders. While it’s always changing as things are bought and sold, I’ve seen brands like Tulpa FX, Oneder Effects, and Dogman Devices all lining the shelves.
The guitars may be the best part though, as you may see some incredible builds from builders like Lord Guitars, Old Redbird Guitars, and Jade Works there, just to name a few. All that and they actually take their food menu pretty seriously too. They aren’t just slinging low quality coffee and defrosted baked goods here. They actually have a killer menu, with items like the “Don’t Nutella Me Nothing” bagel and fresh Corned Beef Hash, plus revolving specials. This place is genuinely sick and also lures folks in with various funny signs, tip jars, and just good energy.
This is just another great small business to support in our shared music and gear community. I mean, they even host coffee pong games?? And do raffles for guitars!
