The Story Behind This RWM Double Cut Telecaster

Is it a Les Paul Junior? Is it a Telecaster?

If you’ve watched any of the pedal demos on this website in 2023 you’ve definitely seen this guitar. While it’s not one I can or want to formally review, it is one I want to talk about. This guitar is made by my friend Ron from RWM Guitars, based nearby in Connecticut. It’s also kind of an amalgamation of all my favorite things. It’s Fender, Gibson, it’s recycled wood, it’s got a P90, it’s light as hell.

It also doesn’t really have a name. I just cycle between calling it a Tele Jr, or a Tele DC Jr. But it’s got quite the story, being made from reclaimed Pine Wood with an ultra thin body that’s the unique Tele double cut shape (almost like an Epiphone Coronet).

It also has a GFS Dream P90 pickup in it, and a very thin/fast Maple neck that is Fender scale but almost shred-like in shape. Lastly, anything that is surf or seafoam green gets a lot of love from me, like the new DeLonge Strat I reviewed. So naturally I fell in love with this Fender meets Les Paul Junior creation.

Here are some of my favorite demos where I’ve used this guitar!

RWM makes super cool guitars and they are a lot more affordable than most “boutique” small brands. They are also pretty easily customizable and relatively simple builds, mostly Fender-inspired stuff that you can tweak to your liking. They aren’t trying to be the best luthier on the East Coast, nor are they trying to revolutionize guitar for the 21st century. Instead, the focus is on making fun guitars for players that won’t cost you $2000.

This isn’t a review, or a paid post. I do work a lot with Ron and he gave me this guitar to use for Guitars For Idiots’ pedal demos in 2023 (for the sake of transparency). However, I just wanted to point out that not every customized guitar or boutique brand is going to cost you multiple thousands of dollars. And if you didn’t see the quirky, unique Fender guitar you wanted to see come out in the Paranormal Series or Alternate Reality Series, here’s a way you can bring one to life relatively easily!

I really dig this guitar and will be 1000% using it going forward. It’s one of the most comfortable and easiest players on my rack, and I know a lot of other RWM fans would agree Ron’s on to something cool in CT!
